Phillies Power Past Rockies Behind Sosa’s Big Night and Schwarber’s Milestone Homer
Edmundo Sosa’s breakout game and Kyle Schwarber’s historic blast fueled the red-hot Philadelphia Phillies to a 9-3 win over the slumping Colorado Rockies on Monday night at Coors Field.
Sosa collected four hits, including his first home run of the season—a two-run shot in the ninth—as the Phillies rallied late to win their fourth straight game. Alec Bohm added a two-run homer and a single, while Trea Turner tripled and tallied three hits.
Schwarber Reaches Milestone
Kyle Schwarber made history in the ninth, crushing a mammoth 466-foot homer off the facing of the third deck—his 300th career home run and 16th of the season. The towering blast punctuated a four-run inning that sealed the Phillies' win.
Late Rally Lifts Phillies
Philadelphia entered the eighth inning trailing 3-2 but quickly flipped the script. Nick Castellanos led off with a single before Bohm launched his third homer of the season to center field off Rockies reliever Seth Halvorsen (0-1), giving the Phillies a 4-3 lead.
Sosa and Brandon Marsh followed with singles, and Turner doubled them both home to cap the four-run frame.
Rockies’ Early Edge Fades
Ezequiel Tovar gave Colorado an early lead with a solo homer in the first and later drove in another run with an RBI single in the third. The Rockies extended their lead to 3-1 in the sixth on back-to-back two-out doubles by Michael Toglia and Brenton Doyle.
Starter Kyle Freeland was solid, allowing one run on seven hits with six strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. However, he received a no-decision as Philadelphia’s offense came alive against the Rockies’ bullpen.
Philadelphia’s Offensive Surge
- Bryce Harper had two hits and an RBI, including a sacrifice fly in the seventh to cut the deficit to 3-2.
- Castellanos and Marsh added two hits each.
- Joe Ross (2-1) earned the win with an inning of scoreless relief.
- Cristopher Sánchez started for Philadelphia, giving up three runs over six innings.
Rockies Continue to Slide
Colorado has now dropped six of its last seven games and struggled to contain the Phillies’ relentless lineup in the late innings.
